Bhagwad Gita - Chapter 3

Arjuna said - Why am I being assigned to this dreadful work? How much good will it attain?

Krishna said - Devotion is two kinds - One is through knowledge and the other is through work. A man does not get free by not doing work.He will not be freed by going by renouncing the world. All have to work. You need to continue work, but be attached to it.

In olden times, Brahma, the creator, asked the people to flourish through sacrifices and please the Gods. He said One who only knows how to enjoy but does not share the fruit with others, is a thief.  Always do work that should be done, without attachment. The Ordinary men follow the ideal set by the great ones. Action is necessary. I set am ideal so people follow my actions.  A wise man should not cause confusion. Work is cut out for all, based on their nature. Some think of themselves as actors playing a part. One who is not attached to the work, are the ones who survive.
Devote your work to me and fight the battle. Those who have faith in me win, the who do not are ruined.

Arjuna said - Why is a sin committed?

Krishna said - It is desire that makes one sin. As fire has smoke around it, desire surrounds knowledge. When you try to control your senses, you understand the mind. If you control the mind you get knowledge. Kill your enemy in the form of desire.
