Bhagwad Gita Chapter 14

The mighty Brahma is womb in which I place the living being. Thus all living beings are born. Natural qualities bind the soul to the body. Goodness is a quality that helps in gaining knowledge.Darkness is born from ignorance. When passion and darkness is subdued, goodness rules. When passion and goodness is subdued, darkness rules and when darkess and goodness is subdued, passion rules. If the thrist for knowledge is there in the body, then know that goodness is developed. Activity and desirecome into play when  passion is developed. Gloom, laziness and delusion are born when darkness is developed. When the body meets its end when goodness is developed, the person attains the Supreme. When the body meets its end when passion is invoked, one is born , attached to work. Likewise, when a body meets its end when darkness is developed, one is born ignorant. The fruit of good action is said to be good ; the fruit, of passion, is misery and the fruit of darkness is ignorance. Goodness is at the top, passion in the middle and darkness at the bottom. The person that is able to see beyond these qualities, attains immortality.

Arjuna asked - What are the qualities of a person who has gone beyong the three qualities?

Krishna said - All qualities are absent for this person. The person has no desire for the qualities when they are present and no desire when they are absent. Pain and pleasure are the same; Gold and soil is the same to the person;  honor and dishonor are the same; friends and enemies are regarded the same; This person has gone beyond all.
