One day, seeing Pandu alone, Madri said that were three queens in Hastinapur. In the city, Gandhari had hundred sons, Kunti had three sons and she was the unfortunate one who was not able to have any child. She asked him to ask Kunti to teach her the mantra so she could also have children.
Pandu said he would speak with Kunti.
Seeing Kunti alone, he requested her to teach Madri the mantra.
Kunti said she would give the mantra to Madri, but Madri would be able to use only once.
When Madri heard she would be able to use the mantra only once, she decided to invoke the twin Gods, Ashwini Kumar.
With the grace of the Gods, twin sons were born to Madri.
After the birth of the five sons, the sages living nearby came and named the children.
The eldest son was named Yudhistira.
The strong son was named Bhima.
The third son was named Arjuna.
Madri's sons were named Nakula and Sahadeva, Nakula being the elder one.
One day Pandu came to Kunti and said that Dhritarashtra had a hundred sons and he wished that Kunti give the mantra to Madri once more to have more sons.
Kunti said she would be unable to abide the request and Pandu respecting that, gave up the thought of having more children.
