Arjuna captures Drupada

One Drona called all his disciples and said he had taught them all he knew. It was time now to pay him his fee, the Guru Dakshina. He said he did not need wealth or land. He wanted Drupada, the king of Panchala, to be brought before him alive and bound.

Arjuna said he would bring Drupada to Drona. Climbing onto his chariot, he sped towards Panchala.

Drupada was not sure why Arjuna had come. As he had heard of an army accompanying Arjuna, he also asked his army to get ready.

He sent messengers to welcome Arjuna, but the prince declined that and said he wanted a war. He told the messengers to tell their king not to sit but come for war.

The king came and started firing weapons which were easily combated by Arjuna. Arjuna cut off Drupada's bow and the king starting fleeing. Arjuna caught the king, bound his hands and taking him on his chariot, he took him to Drona. Duryodhana saw this, and he grabbed Drupada, made him get off the chariot and flung him at Drupada's feet.

Drona said his revenge was complete. He asked for right to half of Drupada's kingdom and released him. Drupada went back to his kingdom, humiliated. He decided to find a way to end Drona and Duryodhana. He had nothing against Arjuna, who had fairly treated him.

He decided to hold a sacrifice for the same.
