Vyasa's epic

Vyasa, in his meditation, saw what was happening. Wise in age and experience, he was the son of Satyawati. His matted hair was golden yellow in colour. Skin was dark in colour.
Knowing that the king was in grief, Vyasa went to the spot where Janmajeya had just killed the brahman. Vyasa asked his desciple, Vaisampayana, to tell Janmajeya about the story of Bharata, listening to which would relieve all griefs and sins.
Janmajeya also wanted to listen to the story. He the rishis, place to sit and then sat down to listen to the story from Vaisampayana.

Vaisampayana bowed down to his Guru, Vyasa, who had composed this epic. Taking his permission, he started. This was a composition listening to which all fears would be dispelled; one who did not have a child would give birth; all griefs would vanish on listening to this.

  3. Pandavas (Five of them) were born to two mothers - first three Yudhistir, Bhima and Arjuna were sons of Kunti so many times they are referred to as Kaunteya. Nakula and Sahadeva were sons of Madri, which is why they are sometimes referred to as Madreya. When Madri died, Kunti took care of all five, who were then called the Pancha Pandava.
