Dhristadyumna then said if the person was from the lowest of the caste, even he was eligible. He said, for twenty one days the contest was on, and till date, non one had been able to get close to the target.
Among the brahmanas were seated Yudhistira and his four brothers. Hearing Dhristadyumna, Arjuna felt restless. He wanted to go and try his luck. He looked at his elder brother, who gave his consent. Arjuna then got up. The other brahmanas wanted to know why he was getting up and where was he going. Arjuna said he was going to try his luck with the target and wanted their consent.
The brahmanas started laughing. The bow that could not be handled by warriors like Jarasandha and Duryodhana, and where people like Drona and Karna had failed, what could a mere brahamana achieve. They said they had come to get gifts, and with a brahmana becoming a laughing stock, they would loose that option too. They pulled Arjuna down and made him sit.
Arjuna wanted to go, hearing the calls of Dhristadyumna.
Suddenly the loud noise of Panchajanya was heard. This was the conch shell of Krishna, being blown by Krishna. All became silent.
Arjuna got up. It was the sound of the shell calling out to him to come and win Draupadi.
Arjuan looked at Krishna who silently asked him to come forth.
The brahmanas said Arjuna was becoming greedy and they pulled him down.
Yudhistira then said everyone had a right to prove themselves. If this brahmana feels he has the capability, he has the right to prove that. If he fails, he himself will loose his battle.
Hearing this, the brahmanas let Arjuna go.
Arjuna went towards the bow. Seeing him, the invited guests started laughing. When they had failed, how would a frail brahmana achieve the target. This was a brahmana who had lost himself seeing a beautiful princess and was not behaving normally. Among themselves they started talking. This kind of things should not be said to brahmanas. And this person did not look like other brahmanas. Dark in color, he had an aura about him. He had regal bearing, a sharp nose, long arms, broad chest,
