Kunti asked Bhima to go and put an end to Baka.
Yudhistira, when he heard this, was not happy with Kunti's decision. Sending Bhima to Baka would mean death for Bhima. Kunti said she was sure of Bhima's strength and knew he would come back victorious. She said she said she seem him the day he was born and he had cracked the earth. He could easily lift elephants and was able to single handedly kill of Hidimb. He was able to carry all on his shoulders in the forests. Also as they were from the royal family, it was a duty of the royals to protect brahmanas.
Yudhistira agreed and told Kunti to tell the brahmana not to say anything to anyone about this.
In the evening, Bhima climbed on the cart, full of food and drove that to where Baka lived. He started calling out to Baka, also simultaneously eating the food meant for Baka.
Baka was furious when he saw this. He rushed to Bhima. He uprooted a tree and flung that which Bhima easily avoided. Baka caught Bhima and they both began wrestling each other. Bhima taking control was able to break Baka's spine and Baka fell dead. Seeing Baka fall, his followers fled, Bhima dragged the body of Baka and left it near the outskirts of the town and went home.
In the morning, the town people were amazed to see the dead Baka. They wanted to know from the brahmana how he was able to kill Baka, as it was his turn to go. He said he had got help from some divine people who had helped him.
